Malta: Revealing the On Stage Team for #WoW

At the moment Ira Losco is extensively touring Europe attending one preview party to another in a bid to promote "Walk on Water", the original song which she co-wrote with Tim Larsson, Lisa Desmond, Molly Pettersson-Hammar and Tobias Lundgren, which she will present on behalf of Malta during the 1st semi-final on the 10th May 2016.

Although surprise is a key-element in the presentation, certain details about the on-stage team have already been made public with Skorpion, a renowned male dancer who has accompanied Kylie Minogue, Taylor Swift and Madonna chosen to choreograph and Anna Azzopardi and Pamela Bezzina picked as backing vocalists.

This will not be the first time that either of the two ladies have gone to the Eurovision Song Contest as a backing vocalist, noting that Anna had previously accompanied Lynn Chircop during "To Dream Again" back in 2003, and Pamela had been on stage with Thea Garrett and "My Dream" in 2010 as well as Glen Vella and "One Life" in 2011.

It is well worth pointing out that Pamela was also the vocal coach for Firelight in 2014, and Amber in 2015. She will be taking on the dual role at this years' international music competition. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest which is taking place in Stockholm, Sweden.

At the end of January, Ira Losco was chosen by the professional jury, and the public-at-large as the winner of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with "Chameleon", an original song she co-wrote with Howard Keith, Peter Borg and Matthew James Borg, collectively known as Talkback.

Just a couple of days later, it emerged that the Public Broadcasting Services, in discussion with both Ira Losco and Howard Keith, that revisiting the song was an option, and indeed it was revealed that "Chameleon" entered in a tight race with another nine (9) original songs, which would be judged by numerous local and foreign experts.

Just days ago, a new cover photo on the Eurovision Song Malta page on social media website Facebook was uploading with the symbol and three letters, #WOW. It might be an acronym but the blood is boiling and tensions are rising as expectations soar. Ira Losco and her team are currently filming the music video, getting ready to submit the final package during the Heads of Delegation Meeting this Monday and Tuesday.

She is expected to also appear on Xarabank on Friday 18th March, a day following the release date slated for Thursday 17th March 2016. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

Ira Losco has just released 'Haunted by Love' as the first single off her much anticipated album, due to be released in 2016. The album will be her fifth studio release and 10th music publication to date.

The 'drum and bass' track, which was produced by Howard Keith at Jagged House Studios, is very fitting to the pop sound currently dominating the charts and airwaves. Ira Losco has been working in the studio since last August and is set to return with a very fresh sound following her previous album "The Fire”.  Awarded best album at the Malta Music Awards, “The Fire” is still in the Top 10 iTunes charts unrivaled by any other local release for the past three years.

Ira’s manager said “So many songs, so many years have passed and yet I can never foresee what Ira is going to come up with next. We try our best to keep it fresh, exciting ,challenging and above all fun. It’s very easy to fall into the ‘predictable and safe’ pattern but Ira has always managed to re-invent herself and out do what she’s done in the past and that doesn’t come by very often.’

Different to previous releases, which were preceded by a radio release, 'Haunted by Love' has been simultaneously released with the music video which was directed by the talented James Vernon.

Also featured in the video is local boxing champion and sports icon Bertu Camilleri playing a cameo role as Ira’s mentor and trainer where she plays the part of a struggling boxer.

"I'm glad to be ending 2015 with the release of the first single from a new body of work we’ve been working very hard on. Although there’s still lots of work to do, we already have 18 tracks A-listed from around 40 tracks and I’m looking forward to release the album in 2016.

I believe that using every possible vehicle to bring across one’s music is of utmost importance in today's industry, where it can easily get lost in all the noise. I pour my heart and soul into what seems to me the best way of bringing my music to my audience in the most creative way possible" said Ira Losco. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

On an unsuspecting Friday, France Televisions, and most notably, France 2 made public the name of the artist, and the entry that will represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna, Austria. The undoubted honour has been given to Lisa Angell, who will be performing the chanson, 'N'Oubliez Pas', a ballad with an uplifting message.

Written by Robert Goldman, the man responsible for 'Je n’ai que mon âme', France's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001, performed to perfection by Natasha St-Pier, the nation hopes to rekindle their former magic. 'N'Oubliez Pas' is a hymn to peace which strongly criticize violence and though it has been recorded in December, it has now a peculiar resonance further to the events which happened recently in France.

Lisa Angell, a 46 year old female singer, is experienced in the music industry, having released three solo studio albums with major record label backing, albeit little chart success. Succeeding TwinTwin might not be a diffiicult effort, considering that they finished at the bottom end of the scoreboard despite their energetic performance of 'Moustache'. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the Eurovision Song Contest 2015.

Freaky Fortune, a duo of gentlemen who represented Greece in this year's edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Rise Up", eventually finishing in 20th place with 35 points, the worst result for the Hellenic nation since 1998, were recently asked to perform at the Madwalk by Gliss.

The event covered by MAD Television, co-responsible for the Greek National Selection also featured guest star Valando Trifonos. Valando Trifonos, winner of the first edition of Greek Idol tried to represent both Greece and Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest, to no avail with "The Time Is Now" and "After You" not troubling the top two positions. The song they performed together, "In a World Without You" had the feel of a true summer tune. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

Yesterday in France, one of the elite big five countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest saw their OGAE fanbase meet up to view and listen to the songs competing in this years' edition of the international spectacle. The event which featured around sixty people took place at the Adyar Theatre. In the morning, the fans chose the twenty songs from the semi-finals, before finally submitting their votes for the final round of the competition.

After a lunch break, the guests of the afternoon were revealed to be none other than the group Twin Twin whose entry Moustache was selected by a mixture of jury and public voting to represent France in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. They took to the main stage and performed an acoustic version of their entry for the international competition as well as two songs; Je Vais Très Bien and Moi-Même from their upcoming album set for release on the 14th April 2014.

1 point: Denmark

2 points: Norway

3 points: Greece

4 points: Ireland

5 points: Austria

6 points: Italy

7 points:  Sweden

8 points: Belgium

10 points: Hungary

12 points: Israel

Fans in attendance were clearly overjoyed at this surprised and Twin Twin promised a colourful, fresh and surprising performance in Copenhagen. It is worth noting that those in attendance believe that the group could achieved a very good result in Denmark. They finished their visit by answering a couple of questions and then performing the Eurovision version of the song Moustache. Only time will tell whether this success will happen of course, but in the meantime, we urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more of the latest news.

Greece, one of the most successful countries to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest, garnered prominence for managing to finish in the top ten (10) on nine (9) consecutive years between 2004 and 2011 respectively, that record being broken by none other than Eleftheria Eleftheriou and her song Aphrodisiac which only managed sixty-four (64) points to finish in seventeenth place, replicating the results achieved by Greece in 2002 and 2003. Nevertheless, just months later, dignity was restored at the hands of Koza Mostra and Agathonas Iakovidis who finished in sixth place with a total of a hundred fifty-two (152) points, making it the best result for the nation since the second runner-up finish in 2008.

Kalispera! It is going to be quite an interesting tussle to see which act will follow suit and replicate or rather better the success achieved in 2013. Greece have faced a turbulent year with the economic crisis and the problems with the broadcaster, so much so, that the selection process is being outsourced to MAD TV, a commercial broadcaster who has significant popularity in the world of music. The four (4) acts will be competing for the affections of both the general public and a professional panel of judges, the latter ultimately comprising of: Dimitris Kontopoulos, Elpida, Themis Georgantas, Areti Kalesaki and Reggina Kouri. You may follow all the proceedings through the official website of the Eurovision Song Contest as well as the escflashmalta.com LIVE report.

The Show (Part 1)

Despina Vandi and Giorgos Kapoutzidis are currently on the main stage, performing a medley of hits from the Eurovision Song Contest, including the fabolous Autostop by Anna Vissi amongst others.  It is worth pointing out that the hosts this evening look absolutely wonderful with our male counterpart in a grey/black suit, and Despina wearing a see through white dress. Greece is celebrating its 40th anniversary since its first participation in 1974 and hence lot of formers participants are there to perform their entries with other singers.

And we start with Kalomira and Vegas with Secret Combination ... Time for a break! We are back in the hall, four (4) songs will battle out to win the golden ticket to Copenhagen. New version of Mathema Solfege from 1977 by Bessy and Melisses! Quick recap of the Greek participations from 1974 to 1995. Now, Anixi (1991) by Diva Sofia Vossou and popular singer Demy in a dance arrangement. This is one of the best greek songs in my opinion. Now review of the Greek songs from 1996 to last year! Keti Garbi and Vegas will now sing 1993 entry Hellada hora to fotos in a very weird slower rap ethnic version.

Keti switched her blue dress to a green one but is still looking gorgeous 21 years after. After a quick look to the famous performers backstage, our hosts now introduce Socrates (1979) sung by Elpida together with georgian rooted singer Tamta! Very powerful voices and stunning arrangements! Time for another advert break and we still have not heard the bidding songs!

Petalouda Stin Athina - Crystallia (Music by Nikos Antypas. Lyrics by Aris Davarakis)

Back in the hall with Despina and Giorgos for the songs. We start with Crystallia and her ethnic ballad Petalouda stin Athina! Four violin players surround Crystallia in a white dress with a cloudy backdrop. Amazing voice, this is much better live than in studio version but it sounds very Greek and might not appeal to European audience.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_akdyJt5Ds

Rise Up - Freaky Fortune featuring Riskykidd (Music & Lyrics: Freaky Fortune and Riskykidd)

Second song is Freaky fortune feat Risky kidd with Rise Up. This is a modern dance song with some rap elements. This song is leading the polls and we can understand why because it is an excellent tune with trompet elements and perfectly performed by this young crew! Though it sounds a bit repetitive at the end, it is defintely the one to watch out. Strong audience reactions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgxOGTm6Lns

Kanenas De Me Stamata - Kostas Martakis (Music and lyrics: Ilias Kozas)

Next up is Greek Apollo Kostas Martakis for his second attempt in greek selection after 2008. Kanenad den me stameta is a balkan ethno rock song written by last year's entrant Koza and we can hear some similarities with Alcohol is free though Kostas Song is more rockish. This is very competantly performed by Kostas and also delivers much better live than in studio version. Strong reaction also from audience. I guess this might be the winner tonight!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzef2udhgak

Dancing Night - Mark Angelo feat Josephine (Music and lyrics by Angelo, Wendel, Lane, Makris and Karlsson)

Time already for last song. Dancing night performed by Mark Angelo and soloist Josephine. This is a generic dance song that would get unoticed in a Melodifestival semi final and the vocals are far from good. Josephine is out of tune since the beginning of the song and spoil completely the track. This is obviously heading for last spot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riFGdnvMYh0

The Show (Part 2)

That's it we ve heard the 4 hopeful acts and this could be an open battle between Crystalia, Freaky fortune and Kostas. No clear winner can be spoted after the performances. Previous contestants are now interviewed backstage before we get the first recap. 20 minutes voting window. Winner will be decided by televoting and a professional jury 50/50. Koza Mostra and Agatona are now on stage to perform Alcohol is free their successful entry from 2013. After a recap in reverse order we now see the already selected songs!

After a recap in reverse order we now see the already selected songs. Giorgios is now back on stage with a sexy Tshirt and introduce his fellow hostess Despina Vandi for one of her songs. We are now graced with a eurovision medley by a young duo singing acoustic versions. Televoting lines are closed we will soon know who will get the honor of waving the Greek flag in Denmark and bring another high placing to the country.

Firelight is now greeting Greece and singing Coming Home .... A quick glance backstage where the temperature is rising up awaiting the results! And I think it's time for the results! And I think it's time for the results! Just before Helena Paparizou gives her opinion about previous Greek participation! And here come the previous greek entrants on stage. Everything is on this iPad! Winner is Rise Up. Well Greece opted for the most modern and international choice. Well done Greece!
