Gaia Cauchi, Malta's representative at the 2013 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest following an internal selection by the Public Broadcasting Services will be joined by another eleven artists at the event following confirmation that twelve (12) countries will participate within the annual competition. The last time that Malta took part was back in 2010 when Nicole Azzopardi had honoured the nation with her entry Knock Knock!….Boom! Boom! which managed just under forty points to finish in a penultimate position.

Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Netherlands, Russia, Sweden and Ukraine are returning countries from last years' edition of the international spectacle whilst Malta and the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia are returning following an extended break. It is expected that Israel will build on last years' participation as the eleventh country with the possibility of another returning country in the form of Spain or a debut nation such as San Marino putting their hat into the ring. On Monday, the Steering Group of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest met in Kiev, Ukraine in order to discuss the way forward with regards to the event.

Chairperson Ekaterina Orlova stated that 'their attention to detail is incredible' adding that they 'have managed to combine the element of fun and high-tech wizardry'. A  number of ideas have also been actualised including the stage design, the logo, the fact that the top three will all receive prizes, rehearsal schedules, running order plans as well as the programme which the artists will undertake to tour the country accordingly. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com as we follow the Junior Eurovision Song Contest closely following Malta's return to the competition.
