The months of summer are coming to an end and that could only mean that the annual music competition known as the 'Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza' is not too far away causing some anxiety amongst the artists as they all compete for that coveted title of becoming the winner of the prestigious event which will be celebrating its twentieth edition on Monday 19th September 2011. Last Tuesday though within the studios of Media.Link Communications, more commonly known as NET Television, the penultimate programme of 'Indifest' took place with Charles and Elaine Saliba as well as Committee Chairman Mark Azzopardi announcing the three finalists of the 'Talent Żagħżugħ' portion of the competition. In fact, in the end those who made it were Michela Dalli, Angelica Portelli and Michela Galea.

The first finalist announced was none other than Michela Dalli, the young twenty year old performer who will be taking to the stage as the first artist just after the presenters make the respective introductions. She will be performing the song 'L-Istorja Tagħna' composed by singer/songwriter Dominic Cini who most recently won the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest and penned by Keith Zammit. This will be a huge stepping stone for Michela who has managed to build good composure as a member of the 'Enkor' Choir. She was clearly ecstatic when chosen as one of the three as she could barely utter a word. Her song is in the vein of a typical local ballad which builds up emotion towards the choruses and the very end.

The second young lady to make it through to the live stage of the competition taking place next Monday on the Granaries in Floriana was a young little lady wearing a white dress and who goes by the name Angelica Portelli. The fourteen year old singer will be performing the song 'Ejjew Nieqfu' composed by Miriam Christine, a former winner of the 'Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza' and penned by Joe Chircop, a lyricist who definitely needs no introduction having penned songs which ended up being winners on a number of occasions. Angelica will be performing in slot number #2 and will be taking all of her past experiences with her on the stage especially her highlight from the Junior Eurosong competition when she took part with the song 'Dream' back in 2008. This is the faster of the three tracks and works well featuring a nice beat.

By far, the youngest competitor and the final one to take to the stage will be none other than Michela Galea who is just fourteen years old. The singer has already had a number of major experiences in local showcases including the Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest last year when she took to the stage with the ballad 'Play for Me' which suited her voice perfectly. The singer has returned to the local music scene with another ballad this time composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and penned by Keith Zammit under the title name 'Kważi Qatt'. She will be ending proceedings within this portion of the competition and therefore leaving a mark on the viewers present at home or present within the audience. The song has a typical Maltese sound once more and builds up beautifully.

Today's edition of CELEBRITY WEEKEND sees the continuation of the second and one of the much awaited phases of the Summer Hit Song Contest 2011. All of the finalists will perform their songs for a second time, but this time round will do so with a Celebrity Artist chosen by the participants themselves. Today's edition will start at 15.00 instead of the usual 16.00 due to a change in schedule.

Deo Grech and Natius Farrugia interview the guest artists about their careers and delve into the world of local gossip and entertainment news. On the other hand, the Celebrity Fashion stylist, Graziella Galdes gives her verdict on the artists' look giving them tips and suggestions even for the final night of the competition. The six guest artists on today's show include 2010 Malta Song finaliata Audrey Marie Bartolo and Kaya (Priscilla Psaila), two time Malta Song finalist Jessica Muscat, four times Malta Song finalist J Anvil. Gloriana Arpa Belli who finished second in the last edition of Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza will also feature in today's programme and so will local artist Muxu.

These singers will perform in duet with the following entries:

01. Someday One Day (Marie Claire Attard Bason)
02. Let's Party (Minic ft Siconix)
03. Ladies Night (Izzy)
04. Turn On The Lights (Walter Anthony)
05. Ain't My Kind of Love (Janice Mangion)
06. Ale'O (Malcom Pisani)

The first phase of performances saw to the fact that all of the eighteen tracks got airplay in full but the second phase has proven to be more interesting with each participant seeking a celebrity artist to perform their song with and therefore have a bit of an extra flare with different arrangements being quite predominant this time round.

This years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is one which is quite special noting the fact that it will be the twentieth time that this showcase of music is being organized. Within the present times, it is one of the two musical events in Maltese actually with the Public Broadcasting Services thinking about restarting the Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija in 2012, a very interesting prospect indeed. The new Chairman of the festival, Mark Azzopardi is bringing in an array of ideas to the showcase and along with the rest of the committee is working hard to make this edition to be the biggest ever in order to commemorate the anniversary well.

The preparations are currently ongoing and it seems like a number of things have now been confirmed and finalized. The program known as 'Indifest' will be commencing on the 5th July 2011 at 20:30 CET and hosting the popular showcase for this year will be none other than veteran disc jockey and former host, Charles Saliba as well as actress and television producer, first time host on Net Television, Elaine Saliba. This is quite an interesting duo and should look well together on screen. Another two hosts will be presenting you the artists themselves, giving the viewers a little heads up on who is the individual behind the song and they are none other than the two finalists of the 'Wiċċ Ġdid' competition, namely, James Xuereb and Demaris Agius. It will be quite interesting to see how they manage to comply with the programme in itself of course. The changes have been made and the program is set to commence, other details are being look at as we speak.

A couple of weeks ago the draw for the running order was made through the show 'Sas-Sitta' on NET Television and one could note that the mixture of artists blend in quite well. We would also like to announce that due to another musical commitment, Jurgen Manicolo has withdrawn from the 'Talent Żagħżugħ' competition and has therefore prompted the first reserve to come in and take his position so congratulations to Maria Carabott who will be performing the song 'Mill-Ħolm Għar-Realtà' composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and penned by Paul Callus. We would like to wish Jurgen, the very best of luck and success with his other musical project. We are going to be keeping you updated with all that is going on with the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza in 2011 and hope that you stay tuned in because a number of surprises are in store for you!

KKI 2011: Tonight on Indifest

By

The anticipation for the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza continues to grow with each passing day especially when taking into account that this years' edition of the event is actually the twentieth anniversary since the actual music competition began and therefore headlining somewhat more of a spectacle. This years' crop of artists is somewhat varied in the best possible ways with newcomers and established names taking to the stage but what is most important is that the full package is somewhat strong. Leading up to the event is the showcase Indifest which will be aired for yet another week this evening.

This weeks' show which is hosted by Elaine and Charles Saliba on NET Television will be featuring an array of performances this evening with the acts from the 'Established Category' being none other than former Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza winner, Mike Spiteri who will be performing his song 'B'Rieda tal-Azzar' written by his long-time musical companion Ray Agius whilst the second act, Norbert Bondin is a newcomer to the music scene replacing Danica Muscat as the performer of the song 'Int Tkun Hemm' written by Philip Vella. In the meantime, the 'Teenage Category' for this week will be featuring none other than Michela Dalli whose song 'L-Istorja Tagħna' composed by Dominic Cini and penned at the hands of Keith Zammit currently ranks fifth in the tele-voting portion of the competition.

With the twentieth edition looming, the past winners are being called upon to make appearances on the show and this evening, one will surely be interested in seeing one half of the duo that won the event back in 2003. I am speaking about none other than Roger Tirazona whom alongside Nadine Axisa accomplished the feat with the song 'Inħarsu 'l Quddiem'. The accomplished performer known for his role within the group Trilogy who managed to reach two successive top three placings in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Also in this weeks' programme will be none other than the Vogue Dancers with a brilliant routine once more. Tune in to NET Television this evening after the news for yet another fun filled evening with Indifest.

One of the major showcases in the local music industry is surely the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza which in the past couple of years has become the major showcase for the official language of the country which is that of Maltese. A host of well known performers submit their interest within the showcase by presenting their own material. With five weeks in tow since the commencement of the tele-voting, things are now heating up and with promotion of each track given through the summer programme 'Indifest' which is hosted by Charles and Elaine Saliba, things look to be heading into the right direction as we see the organization of the twentieth edition taking place. The final of the event is taking place on Monday 19th September 2011 and the hosts mentioned will also be the ones taking the audience through the evening. Each and every day, through NET Television and the KKIMalta channel of youtube, you can hear the clips of the competing entries and then make your choice and vote for your favourite.

The amount of votes in the 'Teenage Category' are still outstanding and this reflects very well for the acts trying to make it to the final night and get the chance to perform on that elite stage on the Granaries in Floriana noting that the tele-voting is worth 50% of the result of the three finalists. The votes in this section are worth much more because of this regard and that is why we encourage you to keep on voting. Below you can see the current placings for this category but of course, we are still very much in the early stages of the competition moving in within the third week.

Another week has quickly gone by and one of the most followed programmes during the summer season is surely none other than Indifest which is the lead up to the annual Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, the biggest showcase for Maltese music in present times with an array of well known and upcoming artists taking centre stage. This year, will be somewhat more impressive with the twentieth edition being organised in the best possible manner. The organising committee is working hard to make sure that all goes well and with resounding quality, things seem to be heading into the right direction. For yet another week, Indifest will be featuring competitions, performances, artist features and also a look back at the history of the festival.

This week, the people who have been invited to appear on the show from the established category are none other than Luisana, Charlotte and Nadine who are the daughters of the late Sammy Bartolo and will be performing the song 'Liberi' which has been composed and penned by the well known Philip Vella, as well as Mike Spiteri, a former winner of the prestigious music competition in the past who has returned with the song 'B'Rieda tal-Azzar' written by none other than longtime collaborator Ray Agius. In the meantime, from the newcomers' category, the live performance will be done by Maria Carabott and her song 'Mill-Ħolm Għar-Realtà' composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and penned by Paul Callus. In the meantime apart from the sublime Vogue Dancers, also joining in the festivities this will be none other than former winner Lawrence Gray despite the invite given out to Charlene and Natasha who cannot make it due to work commitments. It should be another cracking show with Charles Saliba and Elaine Saliba hosting and Tony Busuttil producing and NET Television airing from 20:30 onwards.

Dashing through time, the weeks are already passing by quickly and so is the summer season, the time in which music is given the best possible profile throughout the year especially in the Maltese Islands where these couple of months prove to be the most popular with both locals and foreigners. In the past two weeks, the first two programmes of the new series of Indifest took place under a different setting than has been seen in the last couple of years and this is because this years' edition has a very special significance keeping in mind that this will be the 20th Edition of the annual Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. This years', the local showcase which features songs in the Maltese national language is being hosted by Charles and Elaine Saliba and it is being transmitted under the hospice of Media.Link Communications every Tuesday from 20:30 CET onwards.

Following yet another successful programme last weekend, this week will prove to be as entertaining with people calling in hoping to win some nifty prizes. In fact, performing from the established category in this weeks show is none other than former Malta Eurosong finalist Audrey Marie who will be performing the song 'Ir-Ruħ tat-Tejatru' composed by Rita Pace and penned by Deo Grech as well as former Malta Eurosong second runner-up Tiziana Calleja who will be singing the song 'Kollox Mill-Qalb' composed by John David Zammit and penned by Paul Callus. This will be of course, a playback performance from these two singers with the people at home getting a chance to listen to the full songs so that the voting would take place accordingly. In the meantime, another performance from the 'Teenage Category' will be taking place later on this evening with Michela Galea getting the chance to perform the song 'Kważi Qatt' composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas who was last weeks' special guest and penned by Keith Zammit. This weeks' special guest will be a duet, one which has gained a lot of popularity over the years, I am speaking about Ivan Borg and Priscilla Psaila now known as Kaya. For more information about the showcase and just for some pure entertainment, make sure to tune in to NET Television every Tuesday from 20:30 CET onwards.
