The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is surely one of the major local showcases in the music industry and it has, in the past couple of years has become somewhat one of the few opportunities to present the official language of the country which is that of Maltese. A host of well known performers submit their interest within the showcase by presenting their own material. With six weeks in tow since the commencement of the tele-voting, things are now heating up and with promotion of each track given through the summer programme 'Indifest' which is hosted by Charles and Elaine Saliba, things look to be heading into the right direction as we see the organization of the twentieth edition taking place. The final of the event is taking place on Monday 19th September 2011 and the hosts mentioned will also be the ones taking the audience through the evening. Each and every day, through NET Television and the KKIMalta channel of youtube, you can hear the clips of the competing entries and then make your choice and vote for your favourite.

The amount of votes in the 'Teenage Category' are coming in at an extremely high rate and the competition is really strong it seems amongst the people as the top four are managing to compete well with each other whilst the next two are also in the running it seems. These acts are all trying to make it to the final night and get the chance to perform on that elite stage on the Granaries in Floriana noting that the tele-voting is worth 50% of the result of the three finalists. The votes in this section are worth much more because of this regard and that is why we encourage you to keep on voting. Below you can see the current placings for this category but of course, we are still very much in the early stages of the competition.

The annual Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is one of the most anticipated music festivals in Malta and this is due to the fact that it is one of the last remaining showcases in which the songs are actually performed within the national language of the country which is Maltese. The history of the showcase has proven to be quite successful with a number of acts establishing themselves on local grounds before going onto success in uncharted foreign waters. This year, the festival will be celebrating it's twentieth edition and therefore the organizers are making sure that the night will be one of the best ever put up in order to compliment the occasion. Over the past couple of weeks, the viewers have been able to hear the songs of the participating entries and also vote for them through a set of tele-voting numbers which appear on screen. Each and every day, through NET Television and the KKIMalta channel of youtube, you can hear the clips of the competing entries and then make your choice and vote for your favourite.

The Established Talent Category offers an award for tele-voting separately from the actual competition and this is done to ensure the professional integrity of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. Over the years, a number of the most established artists won this festival as their starting point whilst others have made it to the finals on a number of occasion. Amongst the notable winners, one would note Ira Losco in 2001, Claudette Pace in 1999, Miriam Christine in 1998, Claudia Faniello in 2007, Eleanor Cassar in 2005 and Lawrence Gray in 2002 whilst finalists have included Klinsmann Coleiro, Annabelle Debono, Dorthy Bezzina, Isabelle, Talitha Dimech, Audrey Marie, Pamela and Maronia amongst others. This year, the competition is quite open so to speak with the level playing field being quite difficult. When performed live, the songs get a new lease of life and this is very important for the final night. Please note that the list below of the songs in the order as voted by you people at home is subject to change. We urge you to continue voting for your favourite tracks.

Some of the most important people within the local music industry continue to promote the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza as being the premier promoter of the Maltese language is song actually especially due to the fact that the Għanja tal-Poplu has been somewhat trying to regain a little bit of composure following a late change in the rules and regulations which saw to the fact that artists can submit songs without having really been part of the songwriting process as long as their team makes an appearance of stage. Both the festivals have managed to have their highlights in terms of quality but the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza which is celebrating it's twentieth edition seems to continue their tradition in promoting the language and the typical Maltese musical edge. In the lead-up to the event, viewers at home are able to hear the songs of the Talent Stabbilit performed on playback each and every week and the songs of the Talent Żagħżugħ performed live. The days are passing by quickly and the final is not that far away now with the 19th September set to be the final evening.

Let's kick off with the category where things seem to matter an awful lot actually. The 'Talent Żagħżugħ' portion continues to draw in quite the amount of voters this year and that is somewhat extremely important in the run-up to the final showcase especially because the three finalists that will be performing during the final night of the festival are relying on a 50% vote from the viewers at home apart from the 50% of the Jury who will be voting on the performances that the participants gave during the programme Indifest hosted by none other than Charles & Elaine Saliba every Tuesday night on NET Television. The list of the current results is as seen below but remember that placings are always subjected to change.

1st Place: Angelica Portelli - Ejjew Nieqfu (Miriam Christine / Joe Chircop) - 52102021 (+/- 0)

2nd Place: Daphne Xuereb - Storja (Miriam Christine / Rita Pace) - 52102029 (+/- 0)

3rd Place: Jessica Cachia - SOS (Philip Vella) - 52102028 (+2)

4th Place: Michela Dalli - L-Istorja Tagħna (Dominic Cini / Keith Zammit) - 52102026 (+2)

5th Place: David u Svetlene - Int u Jien (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Joe Chircop) - 52102023 (-2)

6th Place: Michela Galea - Kważi Qatt (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Keith Zammit) - 52102025 (+/- 0)

8th Place: Ann Marie Gauci - Flimkien (Miriam Christine / Rita Pace) - 52102022 (+/- 0)

9th Place:
Mikaela Bajada - Kull Maħluq (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Joe Chircop) - 52102024 (+/- 0)

10th Place: Shannon u Whitney - Tiġġudikax (Dominic Cini / Rita Pace) - 52102030 (+/- 0)

The other category is the one which is somewhat even more competitive on the night of the actual festival and this is due to the fact that the Jury will have the most say noting that the tele-voting results which you can see below are for a separate award that will be given at the end of the performances. The places have been cementing down but the interest within the songs continues to grow noting that the acts which take to the studio continue to gain support from the people at home who would be hearing their entries for the very first time. Please note that the list below of the songs in the order as voted by you people at home is subject to change. We urge you to continue voting for your favourite tracks.

In the meantime, the guests for this evenings' showcase are somewhat large in number because there will be two present. First up will be none other than the 2000 Eurovision Song Contest representative Claudette Pace whom in 1999 had won with the song 'Ejjew Nippruvaw' and also, another Eurovision Song Contest representative in the form of Miriam Christine who won the event back in 1998 with the song 'Nistaqsi', just two years after her foreign appearance. Also joining in during the programme will be the resident 'Vogue Dancers' who will be doing another scintillating choreography. One of the most prestigious showcases for local artists within the music industry is surely the annual edition of the 'Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza' which in turn is organized under the hospice of Media.Link Communications. The Maltese language has been somewhat left to deteriorate in recent years and this is one of the two remaining music competitions that promotes the language in terms of music. The artists to have come up of the 'Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza' have gone onto become leading individuals of the scene including; Claudette Pace, Ira Losco, Miriam Christine, Mike Spiteri, Lawrence Gray, Eleanor Cassar, Claudia Faniello and Amber who co-incidentally all ended up being winners of the renowned competition. There was a sort of ascension in the past that whoever did well in this festival would go onto do well at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and following the victory of Amber, she made it with two songs to the semi-final stage hence pointing out the issue well.

Nevertheless it is important to note that in the lead up to the 'Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza', the committee agreed that they should let an artist garner access to the competition through a reality programme held through 'Sas-Sitta', another showcase which airs on NET Television every Saturday afternoon. This project known as 'Passport 2 Showbiz' is now nearing the final stage of the competition with the last four contestants fighting it out to get access to the competition amongst the twenty (20) finalists. Noting the importance of this stage, there will be 60% Jury and 40% Tele-Voting in each duel, with two (2) facing off each other each week. This Saturday will see Cherise Attard performing the song 'Ma Ninsik Qatt' originally performed by Nadine Axisa singing off against Simone Gauci with the song 'Poeżija' originally sung by Sammy Bartolo. The performances will be live alongside the Spiteri Lucas Band and the vote of the judges will be the one with the most say including residents; Ludwig Galea (ESC 2004) and also Maria Abdilla who is the vocal coach of Ylenia Vella, the backing vocal of Kurt Calleja.

The 2011 edition of the 'Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza' featured quite an interesting set of songs actually with renowned performers such as Audrey Marie Bartolo, Mike Spiteri, Klinsmann, Janice Mangion, Deborah C, Nadine & Fiona, Marilena Gauci, Neville Refalo, and Anna Azzopardi amongst others. Two of the names finished in the top three with the second position going to a new act to the music scene being Albertine with the song 'Skont Id-Daqqa Iz-Zifna' written by Dominic Cini and Giovann Attard. 'Sas-Sitta' begins at 14:05 CET and finished at 18:00 CET with numerous games, guests and pure entertainment. Stay tuned to more about the local music competition through www.escflashmalta.com as the official collaboration goes into a third year.

The local music calender is one that many people should keep a note of and this is because of the various activities and events that take place throughout the year but especially during the summer season when a number of showcases including two of the leading festivals in Malta take centre stage. This year, both the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest and the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza are receiving prime importance and that is why we will be covering them both. The rules and regulations for the latter event where published earlier on this afternoon.

As a member of the committee last year, there was the overseeing of the 19th Edition of the event which saw a new rising star take the first place in the form of Amber whose entry 'Trid Tapprezza' written by Ray Agius and Alfred C Sant was to the liking of our five judges which were Luke Grech of the band 'Relikc', Chris Curmi of 'Airport Impressions', Violinist and former national orchestra member Tatjana Chircop, Vocal Coach and Trainer Claire Massa and Malta Music Awards Organiser, Television and Radio Presenter Carlo Borg Bonaci.

The rules are not too different from last year but in order to refresh your memory and start preparing for the actual show which will be as always stretched throughout a whole summer then visit this link here. Earlier this evening, the second phase of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza came to an end after a two day session which took place last Saturday 21st and Tuesday 24th May. One could easily note that the list includes quite a variety of artists whose background definitely precedes them. The jury that selected the songs within the live phase of the competition were none other than; Deborah Borg Brincat, lead singer of Bletchley Park; Rebekah Grima, who is a Television Producer; Ian Scerri, a music critic and judge at the Malta Music Awards as well as Christian Azzopardi; Radio 101 Disc Jockey. The judging procedure was also attended by Horace J Anastasi, the President of UKAM.

The team behind the song 'Mal-Erbat Irjieħ' have thought it would be best to withdraw the song and let in another entry fill up it's position. Therefore the first song in Reserve moves into the 2011 Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. The song entitled 'Meta Jikkalma L-Mewġ' sung by Mark Tonna is composed by Augusto Cardinali and penned by Giovann Attard. In the meantime, the song which was set to be performed by Danica Muscat entitled 'Int Tkun Hemm' is now set to be performed by Norbert Bondin.

One of the most anticipated events on the Maltese musical calender surely has to be the Konkors Kazunetta Indipendenza which is an open air event held in the Floriana Granaries during the Independence festivities. Several local stars participate in the event promoting Maltese culture and lyrics. It is expected that this years' edition will be bigger and better and this is due to the fact that the festival is moving within its twentieth year and therefore, this marks a little bit of a milestone.

We are in an exclusive position to reveal that this years' edition of the Konkors Kazunetta Indipendenza received a total of 103 Entries, 14 of which have been submitted within the Teen Category, showing a decrease of 18 submissions from last year whilst a total of 89 entries were submitted in the Established Category, a decrease of 4 from last year. I believe that the reason for the decrease all owns up to the lack of studios in Malta and also the Secondary and post-secondary level education exams which are currently taking place. Next Saturday, the songs which have been submitted within the Established Category will be witted down to 50 and those chosen will perform live in front of a different panel of judges later on where the final decision are then made known.
