The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza has been highly regarded as one of the leading competitions in the local music industry throughout the years and this is due to the fact that it proudly promotes the Maltese language as one of the finest foundations of a whole identity. In fact, in this present day and age, it remains as only one of two showcases alongside the Għanja tal-Poplu which have such a clear tradition of original tracks in the Maltese language. The interest remains extremely high and the turn out in terms of submissions has always been maintained with the quality improving drastically in the past couple of years noting the inclusion of extremely professional judges who have sought to select the best possible tracks to represent the musical mood of the present generation whilst keeping in tact with professional prowess. In the past, there have been a multitude of well known names to finish at the top of the competition with acts such as Claudette Pace, Claudia Faniello, Eleanor Cassar, Mike Spiteri, Miriam Christine, Amber, Lawrence Gray, Ira Losco, Kaya and Annabelle Debono triumphing in the end. The committee behind the competition is led by leading television host Mark Azzopardi who is also acting as producer of the flagship programme Indifest which airs every Tuesday night hosted by Christine Haber and Ronald Briffa with special interviews done by James Cassar.

The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza will be hosted for the twenty-first time this year actually and features a host of new, upcoming talent, especially individuals who were part of the teenage category just a couple of years back, rightfully earning their place in the local music industry in recent months. Apart from meeting four (4) people each week, two (2) from the Established Category and two (2) from the Teenage Category, there are also a number of weekly special guests. Last weeks' edition of the programme featured none other than Natasha and Charlene, who were the winners of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza way back in 2004 with the track L-Arka Tal-Libertà as well as in 2008 with the group Is-Sitta as they performed the song Flimkien Nistgħu Nirnexxu. Joining them on the show at a later stage was also Nadine Axisa who was also a winner of the competition in 2003 alongside Roger Tirazona with the track Inħarsu 'l Quddiem.

This years' programme is being produced by none other than Media.Link Communications and thus NET Television but the individuals concerned are Lisa Libreri as well as Mark Azzopardi, who as mentioned above is also the chairman of the committee behind the competition. The decision to have him on a dual role is one of the best ones that has ever been taken and this is because the competition is best promoted in this manner. The first act to take to this stage this evening during Indifest will be none other than Francesca Sciberras who will be performing the track Rebbiħin composed by Miriam Christine and penned by Celestina Sciberras with the second guests on the show being none other than the only trio in this years' competition featuring Neville, Ivan and Claire with the track Mhux L-Ewwel Darba composed by Augusto Cardinali and penned by Giovann Attard. As always, those competing in the Established Category will be promoting their track but will be performing playback

In the meantime, there is also a performance from the teenage category and that will be quite important so to speak due to the fact that the performance will be assessed by a panel of appointed judges in the coming weeks. This will be the final week in which entries from this category will be presented actually noting that next week will mark the announcement of the three (3) finalists, those who will be performing in front of a seated crowd at the Granaries in Floriana. Those who will be taking to the studios to perform this week will be none other than Antonella Rapa who will be singing the track X'Qaltli L-Arzella composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and penned by Joe Friggieri as well as Maria & Justine who will perform the track Ħbieb ta' Veru composed by Kaya and penned by Christopher Azzopardi. It is to be noted that despite the fact that tele-voting plays a very important role in this latter category, this year, there has been a reduction in the respective percentage owing to the final outcome with just 40% attributed leaving the other 60% to the jury as already mentioned above. The idea is to make sure that the people who make it through to the final stage of the competition ultimately deserve to be there.

Last week, there was also supposed to be the performance by Corinne Caruana but she had to pull out due to being ill unfortunately with rescheduling also taking place noting that she will be appearing in the programme next week in order to promote her track Dan Mhux Tmiem. Nevertheless, there will be a guest for this weeks' programme as has been the case in previous weeks and this time round it will be none other than Klinsmann, a two time participant in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza having finished in third place back in 2007 as well as winning the public award with the track KC1FM whilst taking part also last year with the track Ħajjitna most likely finishing in second place in the tele-voting portion of the competition having been in the position for a very long time. Make sure to tune into NET Television tonight at 20:30 CET to watch another filled programme of Indifest.
