The Travellers, a new, young and energetic band, will be releasing their debut single, "Sempliċità" on the 12th of this month, followed by another single and the launch of their first 5 track Extended Play (EP) later on in 2016.

The band got together in 2013, with one aim in mind, that of trying to create something different in the already wide diversified local music scene.

Clayton (Bassist), Joseph (Trumpet), Chris (Main Vocals) and Andrew (Guitarist), have been in the music scene from a very young age and their love for Music grew fonder as they grew older. On the other hand, Sylvano (saxophone) and Michael (drummer) joined the rest of the band later on in 2013. This marked the inception of The Travellers.

All the members of The Travellers hail from Gozo and are very frequent commuters, crossing the channel to and from Malta regularly, hence the name of the band seemed the most appropriate and was an obvious choice.

In the past year, the band has been working on a mix of contemporary music incorporating brass and Maltese lyrics. This had originally started more of a curiosity and the band started experimenting with how their melodious tunes would sound when combined with the Maltese language on contemporary rhythms.  The aim behind this was to change the concept of Maltese diction in music on the islands.

This does not mean that the band is restricting their music to Maltese, but are leaving all their options open and are excited to see what the future holds. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest about the local music scene.

Ira Losco has just released 'Haunted by Love' as the first single off her much anticipated album, due to be released in 2016. The album will be her fifth studio release and 10th music publication to date.

The 'drum and bass' track, which was produced by Howard Keith at Jagged House Studios, is very fitting to the pop sound currently dominating the charts and airwaves. Ira Losco has been working in the studio since last August and is set to return with a very fresh sound following her previous album "The Fire”.  Awarded best album at the Malta Music Awards, “The Fire” is still in the Top 10 iTunes charts unrivaled by any other local release for the past three years.

Ira’s manager said “So many songs, so many years have passed and yet I can never foresee what Ira is going to come up with next. We try our best to keep it fresh, exciting ,challenging and above all fun. It’s very easy to fall into the ‘predictable and safe’ pattern but Ira has always managed to re-invent herself and out do what she’s done in the past and that doesn’t come by very often.’

Different to previous releases, which were preceded by a radio release, 'Haunted by Love' has been simultaneously released with the music video which was directed by the talented James Vernon.

Also featured in the video is local boxing champion and sports icon Bertu Camilleri playing a cameo role as Ira’s mentor and trainer where she plays the part of a struggling boxer.

"I'm glad to be ending 2015 with the release of the first single from a new body of work we’ve been working very hard on. Although there’s still lots of work to do, we already have 18 tracks A-listed from around 40 tracks and I’m looking forward to release the album in 2016.

I believe that using every possible vehicle to bring across one’s music is of utmost importance in today's industry, where it can easily get lost in all the noise. I pour my heart and soul into what seems to me the best way of bringing my music to my audience in the most creative way possible" said Ira Losco. Devised as an international spectacle with the aim to bring about countries together through the medium of song, the Eurovision Song Contest has served a purpose for no less than 61 years, with Ireland holding the baton as the most successful participating country with 7 victories, the last of which coming back in 1996, at the hands of Eimear Quinn and "The Voice".

Malta, a 28-time participant is stir-crazy for the event, noting that the national selection coined as the Malta Eurovision Song Contest (previously; Malta Song for Europe) seeking the interest of every living song as the winning entrant is taken through a flurry of emotions prior to the experience in May. As a result of this fanatic approach, it should come as no surprise that both television and radio, with the latter in particular dedicate specific programmes in support of the event.

In fact, with the new autumn/winter schedule commencing as of last week, there are no less than 2 programmes in this season's programming; Euromix and Eurovision Radio. Airing on Radju Malta 2 every Thursday at 7:30 pm, Euromix is hosted by Frederick Zammit, and Luke Borg, a former journalist to the international website, esctoday.com bringing you the latest news, gossip and music from the 61 year old spectacle. On the other hand, airing on ONE Radio 92.7 every Friday at 7:45 pm, Eurovision Radio is hosted by Deo Grech and is the longest running radio show in Europe in dedication to the Eurovision Song Contest. Bringing even #live updates directly from the event in May, along with music and latest news from the competition.

On the 26th July 2015, in the midst of an extremely temperamental summer, Soundhouse Productions organised the 1st edition of 'Battle of the Voices' at the Montekristo Arena. Filled to the brim with talent, upcoming artists, all of whom are willing to showcase their vocal range, and artistic skills put their names forward, in the hope of being recognised by a panel of professional judges, and thus rewarded with points, and eventually trophies.

From Sections A to D, a 7 year-old girl by the name of Giorgia Borg was the most impressive, winning plaudits from all the judges present, and thus crowned the overall winner of those respective sections. Born in Australia, yet a resident in Malta for more than 6 years, Giorgia is an only child and has been training at La Voix Academy.

From Sections E to Maltin Biss, all the focus was on Nicole Borg, an outstanding performer, whose vocal prowess knows no boundaries. Recently a finalist in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, having come through the 'Talenti Ġodda' category, with the song "Fis-Seba Sema'", composed by Gillian Attard and Cyprian Cassar with lyrics by Rita Pace, this girl has the chops to seriously compete for a place amongst the elite in the near future.

The Grand Prix Winners were the same aforementioned Nicole Borg, and her twin sister Naomi Borg, both of who are extremely gifted. This was one of the several singing competitions which took place in the last couple of months and which escflashmalta.com had the pleasure to cover. We urge you to stay tuned to this portal even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.

After the launch of her debut album original songs in Maltese entitled ‘Hawn Jien’, singer/songwriter Corazón followed up its success with a concert at the Casino Maltese last January. The location offered the ideal setting for this collection of songs which treat diverse social themes and profound lyrics.

Corazón has never shyed away from singing about what is usually left unsaid, giving a voice to the prostitute (in Illejla B’Xejn), to the unborn child (in Hawn Jien) and even to the woman scorned (in Marì) amongst others. The concert included popular songs such as Tal-Aħħar and Fid-Dar tan-Nanna and the launch of two brand new songs which were included in the second edition of the album.

All songs were performed live by a group of talented musicians; Walter Vella on saxophone, Carlo Bugeja on keyboards, Simon Sammut on the double-bass, Samuel Attard on the drums, Jimmy Bartolo on guitars and Dominic Galea on the piano. Dominic Galea also took care of the direction and arrangements. The songs were taken to a different level with the presentation of introductory theatrical pieces scripted by Trevor Zahra and directed by Mario Micallef.

The concert featured also several well-known personalities such as Walter Micallef, Peppi Azzopardi, Hermann Bonaċi, Frida Cauchi, Louise Doneo, Mark Doneo, Joe Galea, Antonella Galea Loffreda, Lilian Vassallo, Clive Piscopo, Nathalie Micallef amongst others. Corazón felt that the best way to present her songs was to an intimate audience of around 300 people.

This concert was sold out a week before the performance and many were disappointed for not managing to find available tickets. For all who missed this concert and also for those who were present and would like to rekindle memories of this experience, the concert will be aired on Sunday 21st June at 20.40 and on Wednesday 24th June at 22.00 on TVM2. 'The Celebrity Night' is a weekly television programme which has become somewhat synonymous with Saturday evening, is broadcast on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off at the beginning of October revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style.

Davinia, a twenty-two year old female singer/songwriter, recently relocated to the United States of America in order to pursue a music career in a foreign country, hoping to break through on another level, has been humming melodies, and scribbling down lyrics with songwriter Nick Lopez.

One of the advanced projects which they had been working on at length was the original song “Round & Round” which is being presented as Davinia’s brand new single, and the first in 2015. This serves as a follow-up to “Ouch!”, produced by Carlo Gerada and co-penned with Matt ‘Muxu’ Mercieca and “Brand New Day”, composed by Elton Zarb and penned by Matt ‘Muxu’ Mercieca’.

In tune with a warm expectant summer, “Round & Round” is a fine mixture of pop, rhythm & blues, funk as well as soul, four genres which Davinia has previously had the opportunity to perform separately but not as a combination. As a co-writer, Davinia states that this is a ‘fun song which people will hum and bop along to instantly’.

With temperatures already soaring at 29 Degrees Celsius, it is fair to say that Malta is looking towards an excruciatingly warm summer. Nevertheless, the public will hope to find solace in the blissful tunes that will emerge out of the local music industry, two (2) of which were made public earlier this week, "Keep Me In Love" by The New Victorians and "2 Hot 2 Handle" by Johnny Vincent & Rikki Lee.

"Keep Me In Love", the second single by The New Victorians, taken from their upcoming debut album set to be released later on this month, is a genre of music which has not been really experimented upon in Malta, yet closely resembles the sound emitted by Lauren Aquilina, the singer/songwriter with Maltese descent who is based in the United Kingdom, and is currently signed to Island Records. In support of this release, an accompanying music video has been shot, produced and directed in three (3) different locations by Malcolm Debono. The New Victorians will be giving a major performance at the Greek Theatre on the 5th June as part of Earth Garden. It also happens to be the launch date for their highly anticipated debut album.

"2 Hot 2 Handle", the latest music release by Rikki Lee, marks a second consecutive collaboration, albeit this time with Johnny Vincent, an upcoming DJ from Vienna, Austria. On first listen, the song instantly screams summer, noting that the thumping beginning is only eclipsed by an extremely strong chorus. Rikki Lee has been known to own the summer months with previous releases including "Feel Alive", "Smile" and "Lies".
