Some people might have thought the evening to be a little bit too tedious especially because of the ample advert breaks but nonetheless, the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2012 was organized well from start to finish. The inclusion of hosts Elaine Saliba, Ronald Briffa and Frank Zammit worked very well it seems as the people enjoyed their respective run as comperes. The guest list for the evening was quite astonishing including a number of tracks in Maltese from the hit musical drama series 'D.R.E.A.M.S' moving onto last years' representative Glen Vella who would also performed with the gospel choir 'ANIMAE'. As the night continues, French representative at the Eurovision Song Contest; Anggun came out to perform her entry 'Echo (You & I)' as well as another recent hit before Ell & Nikki took to the stage to perform 'Running Scared' along with two new solo entries. The voting was quite interesting near the end with a three way battle between Amber, Claudia Faniello and Kurt Calleja with the latter finishing in the prime position.

In third place came none other than Amber whose track 'Answer With Your Eyes' failed to rack up any support from the public but managed to finish in second place with the jury in place which featured heads of delegation from France, Turkey, Ireland and Italy as well as two local journalists from Television Malta (TVM). The same panel saw to it that Claudia Faniello and the song 'Pure' land the top position but her fourth place in the tele-voting meant that she could only finish in second place, missing out on the win by just six (6) points at the end. To many, the victory of Kurt Calleja might be a surprise with many people definitely not predicting it especially due to the fact that Kurt is still relatively new to the music scene in Malta having taken part in this showcase for the third time; in 2010 with Priscilla on the song 'Waterfall', in 2011 with the entry 'Over and Over' which finished in third place and this year of course with the song 'This Is The Night'.

Kurt Calleja becomes the 25th representative for Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest and he will not have an easy road ahead of him as he competed within the first part of the second semi-final alongside strong nations such as Turkey, Sweden, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Armenia and Norway amongst others. In the meantime, one of the first promotional trips that Kurt Calleja will be making is that to Azerbaijan as announced by Ell & Nikki during an interview with our colleagues from Radio International. In the meantime, the Public Broadcasting Services emphasized in the press conference that there were 17,000 individual home calls this evening, which was quite astonishing and that Kurt picked up more than half the number of the runner-up which in tele-voting was none other than fourth place finisher Gianni and his song 'Petals On a Rose'. The winning performer congratulated his team and his runners-up and thanked his family and fans for voting this evening.
