The Eurovision Song Contest came to existence thanks to the Italian national broadcaster, RAI whose idea of Sanremo was quickly adopted on a larger, European scale. The contest grew to become the one which many people follow today and which features a number of participating nations. Last year, following a long break, Italy returned to the competition with the song 'Madness of Love' performed by Raphael Gualazzi finishing in a respectable second place and hence, despite disappointing viewing figures, they would like to take part once more announcing their participant to be none other than Nina Zilli.

The announcement was made by the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest winners; Ell & Nikki during the final night of Sanremo which saw Emma and her song 'Non E` l'Inferno' triumph leaving Arisa and Noemi in the first and second runner-up positions. The choice of Nina Zilli seemed to have been negotiated between the Italian broadcaster, RAI and also Universal Music Italia which is also the same company which represented Emma, Matia Bazar, Nina Zilli, Francesco Renga, Noemi, Irene Forniciari, Eugenio Finardi, Marlene Kuntz and Chiara Civello. The broadcaster is actually very happy with the negotiation as they are proud to have Nina on board.

Meeting will be held with the singer and her management in the coming days in order to discuss her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest and select the song she will ultimately present on behalf of Italy at the prestigious musical event. The project this year has even more renowned vigour than last year and with a major record label in tow, it seems like the nation would like to end in the upper echelons of the scoreboard. It has been expected that the track will be off her latest album and then again her title track being 'L'amore e Femmina'.
